Stories I tell: When Sarah met the mayor

Not sure if you've heard, but there's an election coming up.

It's five weeks from today.

It has had me thinking about a walk I took many years ago with my daughter, Sarah. I think she was about 4 or 5 at the time.

I'm generally not one to interrupt a well-known person, but as I pulled Sarah in her wagon, I saw someone I thought my daughter should meet. Pam Iorio lived in our neighborhood and was also taking a walk. I don't recall whether Iorio was running for mayor of Tampa or had already been elected, but I flagged her down and introduced her to Sarah. She was very gracious.

Subsequently, I took Sarah with me to vote on occasion, and at least once, I remember seeing Mayor Iorio at our polling place. I made sure to point her out and the possibilities she represented.
